Schools

bmeyers5 Jun 6, 2013
This is a very interesting presentation on the schools in Ukraine and Belarus. It is very similar to schools in the US except for the 10 or 12 point grade system. Our grades are on a percentage system with 100% being the best.
I will show this to my students when they return in the fall. I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday!

All the best,
Mr. Meyers

Thank you for the message. My students will be interested in learning more about High school education in the USA. They might create a Wiki TV programme about it in 2013/2014 school year.
Have a nice summer.

Backpacking in Utah!

Seven students and Mr. Meyers went backpacking with two guides into the beautiful canyons of Utah.

Here are some pictures with narrative from the students.

Questions for students learning English
Hi! In our Spanish class we wondered how students from other schools learn English. So we created this video that asks questions about your classes and also explains how we learn a foreign language in our school. We hope you enjoy our video and please answer our questions when you get a chance.

Thank You!

Rocket Launch
In our 8th grade the students take an enrichment class which meets once every 7 school days. In one of those classes the students make model rockets from kits and then launch them. We hope you enjoy the video of our launch.

Thanksgiving in Colorado
We would like to thank the students in Ukraine for their excellent video and greeting for our Thanksgiving Holiday. We have answered your questions in the following 2 videos.

Period 1 Thanksgiving Dinosaur Ridge Field Trip and Sediment Paint LabOur class went on a field trip to see dinosaur fossil footprints and to study the geology of the area. When we got back to school we spent some time making paint from sediments that we collected. We hope you enjoy our video!

Leaf Observations with the 3rd Grade
We have been recording observations of leaves changing color as fall progresses. These observations will be entered into the GLOBE Program's website
http://globe.gov/
so that scientists and other students will have access to it. Long term data may be used as an indicator of climate change.

Welcome to our studio. Please see the video introduction below to learn more about our school.

Our classes went to a creek to sample for macro-invertebrates. After identifying the species found we can determine the water quality of the creek.

Our 5th period class will also introduce themselves.
We hope you like our video!

Hi All,
I did not go on this trip so I cannot answer all of the questions but the students did have a good time visiting the capital. One of the students worked on the video but unfortunately did not finish until the school year was over. The students are now home for the summer and will return in August.
We have had a very good time working with all of you on the Wiki project and look forward to continuing next year.

Hi Heather,
Thank you for the message. Don't worry if it does not work.
My students have passed their last Middle school exam today, and their vacations start tomorrow.
I guess both Ukrainian students and American students deserve a good relaxing in the summer so that in September they can return to the discussion about the trip to Washington and a lot of other things made in the summer time, too.
Have a pleasant summer.

I was one of the students who went on the trip to Washington D.C and would be happy to answer any questions about the trip.
The trip was very fun and a great learning experience. I loved seeing all of the monuments and learning about their history, as well as exploring museums that I always heard about, but never was able to go to. Going on this trip was definitely a highlight of my 8th grade year.

Hi there!:)

Guys, your video looks like a real TV show and you are funny and good singers :)). I like the night Washington, it's beautiful.

I love travelling a lot and I hope to visit the USA in a few years.

This summer I visited two countries.
First I was in Turkey and I wasn't really impressed, because I have already been there a few times. So visiting Turkey was just a relaxing break for me after the school year and I enjoyed the nature, the sea and the weather.

Then, I was in Great Britain, namely in London. I have always dreamed to visit the UK, because at school we have read many interesting stories and legends about the different attractions of Great Britain. It was one of my most interesting trips! I visited some historic places like the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace, some places of interest like Ripley's museum 'Believe it or not!' in which there is a huge collection of strange and extraordinary things, the London zoo with many species of animals that live in good conditions, the Tate Modern gallery of modern art, a labyrinth of fear dedicated to the history of London Bridge … I really liked a world-famous Madam Tassaud’s museum and other museums I visited. Also I enjoyed a natural Kew gardens with a huge territory! I have seen a lot of other famous places, like Big Ben (now Elizabeth Tower), Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral… But I’m so impressed, that I can’t hold all my impressions in this letter :)

Hello everyone!
You've done wonderful video! It's really very interesting! You all can be incredible tv-show hosts in the future!)I have a dream to visit Washington DC one day with my family and friends and to visit there a lot of museums!))
As for me, I was in Georgia this summer! I have many relatives there, because I'm half-georgian girl) So I lived in Batumi, Kutaisi, Tbilisi and others georgian cities for a month. I swam a lot in the Black sea and climbed to the highest mountain in Georgia in beautiful historical city Mestia! I visited The museum of Georgian History and improved my knowledge in georgian language too. Also I visited Turkey last month and had some shopping there with my georgian friends! I really had a lot of fun traveling Kavkaz this summer and I hope I'll be back there next summer after entering the university!)

Best regards

Hi everybody!
I think you had a great time in Washington :) Thanks for your amazing video about this nice city! I like it because I haven't been abroad yet, but recently I've had the opportunity to get to know about the city in another country.
I had nice summer holidays in my country. I was in the recreation center near the river Desna with my family. I have a rest there every year because I enjoy the nature, fresh air and clean water in the river. So it's the best relaxation for me :))

Best wishes,

All greetings, guys!
I really enjoyed your video. You look so happy and it was amazing!:) It was so cool to see many new sights of Washington. It's a beautiful city and I hope to visit Washington D.C. with my family in a few years.
This summer I was at the Black Sea in the wonderful village of Mezhvodnoe. It is very beautiful place, the air is clean and each track is tiled. I was there with my family and friends. We were lucky, because our base had two ways out: one directly on the sea, and the other on the estuary. Sea water was clear and clean, every night the sand on the beach was purified. When I had come to the estuary, it was something incredible: water has a higher salt concentration and I could lie quietly on the water. Also we were on a foam party. It was cool!

All the best,

Hi everyone!
I like your video very much) It's really very interesting and exciting. Perhaps you had a good time in Washington. I would also like to go there. It's one of my dreams, I want to visit Washington DC with my family or with my friends.
This summer I was in Moscow on championship of rowing. Our team took 3th place among 12 teams. After that I was a month in sports camp in Kyiv and there we had some championships.
Last month I worked near the one mall centre, it's called "RAYON".
I met a cool girl and we have a very good relationship, is the best thing that with me happens this summer)))
I enjoyed my summer very much!

I visited a lot of places and got a lot of pleasure. For example Yalta, Gurzuph, Sevastopil'.
I also visit my grandmother in the village. I helped her with the household and then backed home to Kyiv. On this hilidays I trained on the guitar a lot. My father help me with training.
In general, I liked my holidays)))) But I want more, more, and more...... Unfortunately, it's impossible)

This summer I visited a lot of countries in Europe. Firstly, I was in Poland and visited different museums which nice surprised me. Also, I made shopping and I bought some new clothes and souvenirs for my friends. Also, I bought two Eurovision disks for Marianna, she dreamed about it long time so I hope now she is very happy. After this trip we rode in Germany, there we have many excursions. Next and last country was Latvia. In this country we lived at the Baltic sea, but it was very cold, so I didn't swim. I took some photos and get very enjoyable impressions.

Hi guys!)
Your video is really gorgeous! I do like it! I hope I'll visit Washington too.
The summer was really interesting for me .
My family and I was in Italy and in France. I was very impressed. There are a lot of beautiful places.
Most of all I liked the Verdon Canyon. Its length is 25 kilometers, and its depth is 700 meters. It is the most delightful place I`ve ever seen.
Also I was in Canada. I spent a month there. I learned English in summer language school. I met many new people there from all over the world and got a good experience of using a foreign language in everyday life.

Dear friends,

What a tarrific trip!!!
We really enjoyed the gorgeous mountains, very unusual shape and there're steep and scary to stand on.It's also fun to hanging out with friends, feel the team spirit, cook together, sleep in a sleeping bag.
We would like to know If any animals live in Red Mountains? How many kilometres did you hike? How long did the trip take?
In Ukraine there are the Carpatian Mountains in the West and the Crimean Mountains in the South. We have been there, and we should say that our mountains are covered with forests and waterfalls, there are a lot of mushrooms, berries. In winter we enjoy skiing in the Carpatian mountains. Do you go skiing in Rocky Mountains?
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Nikita, Sofia and Dima, thank you for your questions and comments. The area in Utah where we were hiking is a desert so there are lizards, snakes, many birds, deer. When we were there it was very cold at night so most of the reptiles were not active which is nice :) We had topographic maps to guide us through Fish and Owl Canyons. We walked about 22 Km in 4 days. Yes, we love to ski in the Rocky Mountains. They are much like your Carpatian Mountains. I think what impressed me the most were the stars at night. It is a very dark sky so the stars are beautiful!
Cheers,
Mr. Meyers

Because it's the most important foreign language for us.

How many people around you speak English?

Not many people use English in everyday life, but all the students study it at schools, because they might use it at work.

Most of us have been learning English since we were six years old. So, today it's quite easy for us.

Is it a tradition in Colorado that students do that?

It's a very entertaining video! I have some questions to you:
1. Is it dangerous to launch rockets?
2. Did you have some accidents?
3. Where do you buy materials for this experiment?

Hello yehor,
It isn't very dangerous but we did have on accident where the rocket tipped over and shot at the teacher, and you buy materials for the rockets on the Internet
Eguzzi Dec 14, 2012
It is not a Colorado tradition to launch rockets, but it is still really fun! It can be dangerous to launch rockets if the rocket is built incorrectly, but you follow the directions you should be fine. Mine was the only one that exploded. The tube that connected the rocket to the launch pad got stuck and wouldn't let the rocket go up. No one was hurt, and I still think it was really funny!
bmeyers5 Dec 14, 2012
Hi Nataliya and students,

It is interesting that they launched them in Aurora when you visited. It is not a tradition but they are very popular and a nice activity for students. If any of you are interested in more information on the rockets visit this website:
