Final Project from Ukraine: Nations and Nationalities Sharing City Life
Hi everybody,

Sorry!! We are a bit late.

But here it is our final project. My students have loved working as a large team and they have managed to get to know a lot about the world diversity. As a teacher I have been enjoying watching them involved in real life communication. This project is extremely awarding for all of us.

I'm thankful to all the teachers and students for the terrific final projects we have had the opportunity to see.

Life is getting better in Ukraine. Thank you to everybody for the warm welcome.

My students and I would be happy to continue the collaboration next year.

Have a wonderful summer rest .

Best,

Nataliya

Hi Nataliya!

Here is our Nations and Nationalities Project. We had some great conversations while finding research for these. Especially since we tend to combine race with nationalities in many ways. For instance, most surveys ask to choose from Black or African, White or Caucasion, Hispanic or Latino, Asian-Pacific Islander, or American Indian. Since my students have limited background knowledge, we had to differentiate between race and nationality and our family histories. They were very interested in the fact that I am of Irish, English, French and Polish decent (My maternal grandmother was born in France). I found it interesting that they simply considered themselves American, not African-American or any other version.

Thanks for the conversation starter!

Best Wishes,

Lynn

Final Project
We are mostly done with our project and running out of time, so I want to share what we have! We created a Prezi, with the help of my 7th grade class. Although we don't have a great deal of pictures yet, and we haven't added our student created stories (urban legends), we are going to go ahead and submit. If we have time to add anything on Monday, we will resubmit. Our last day with students is Wednesday, May 21, so I doubt we will get much further!

I have truly enjoyed this experience and would love to continue working with others next year. My school email is lynn.shuryan@knoxschools.org. If anyone has project ideas or wants to continue collaborating, please feel free to contact me. I plan to continue to use iearn.org next year, starting from the beginning of the year.http://prezi.com/qfyecbd6-jg1/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share

Hi Nataliya

Sorry for delay. We `ll be glad if our answers help you. There

are many nations and nationalities in Energetic. But their cultures aren`t

richly presented in our Republic of

Belarus at all. Last events show that our government try to do best for

correcting the situation. Best

Thank you for such a wonderful Learning Circles experience! Our students here in Seattle have been enjoying everyone’s work and learning a great deal from it. We hope you will enjoy our presentation - we found we have much in common when it comes to the challenge of making healthy choices.
We hope you will stay in touch and please know we would always be honored to have you visit us here in Seattle. With gratitude and appreciation, we send our warmest regards to you all.

  6. 6. Belarus Kartoflanka Draniki
  7. 7. United States Tennessee - Fried Chicken Seattle – Salmon Native American Style
  8. 8. Challenges to Eating a Healthy Diet • Our traditional foods taste good but are not always healthy for us. • Even when we have healthy foods available for lunch at school, we often choose less healthy options. • All schools agree that healthy choices are more expensive than unhealthy ones, and this is an obstacle to healthy eating.
  9. 9. Choices • Even when good options are in front of us, we often choose less healthy ones. • Fat, salt, and sugar taste great! We need to educate our children about healthy choices at a young age. • Want to make an unhealthy choice? Eat a piece of fruit first or drink a natural juice. Then see if you still want the other food. Most of the time you will forget about the first choice.
  10. 10. Pledges from Our Learning Circle Schools • Read labels and become more educated about food. • Eat less fat and sugar. • Eat more vegetables and salads. • Have breakfast every day. • Eat more fruit as a snack. • Have natural juice. • Make posters with healthy foods. • Shop with parents. • Talk with peers and support each other’s efforts to eat healthier.
  11. 11. We Can Do It If We Try! Thank you to Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Romania, Moldova, Turkey, Morocco, and Tennessee! We have greatly enjoyed being in the Learning Circle with you this year. We wish you a happy and healthy summer! From your new friends in Seattle, WA, US.
